First minted in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar was the product of America%u2019s largest silver strike, which occurred at the Comstock Lode in northern Nevada in the mid-1870s. Though it never gained broad appeal outside of the Western mining Territories and States (Idaho, Montana, Colorado, etc) during its production run from 1878-1904, its connection to an important period in American history has rendered it a highly sought after piece among collectors. Older Morgans (pre-1905 dated) are rarer because they were melted down to make 1921 Morgans.

Peace Silver Dollars were issued 1921-1928 & 1934-1935 to commemorate the peace following the first World War. Believing that their generation had seen "The War To End All Wars," Congress directed the mint to issue silver dollars for the first time since 1904. Apparently misunderstanding the directive, the Mint revised the old dollar design by Morgan, and issued a sgnificant quantity of 1921-dated Morgan Dollars. Eventually a more modern design, prominantly featuring a more "peaceful" eagle standing on a rock bearing the word "PEACE" by sculptor Anthony de Francisci was put into production. The 1921 Peace Dollar was made with a distinctive High Relief design, which was modified in 1922 to allow for easier striking. With the exception of Depression years 1929-1933, the Peace Dollar was made until 1935.

Uncirculated/BU - Mint State, completely un-used and fully lustrous but may have a number of abrasions or "bag-marks" from contact with other coins.

About Uncirculated/AU/"Slider" - Barely used, appear new to untrained eye, showing only slight loss of mint luster.

Extra Fine/XF - All details sharp, with light wear on highest details.

Very Fine/VF - All major details very clear, but minute design elements may begin wearing away.

Fine - Shows significant circulation, but main design and lettering still easily visible.

Very Good/VG - Well circulated, but all of the main designs are still visible and date/lettering readable with no "fading" into the rim.

"Avergage Circulated"/Mixed - Worn below VG grade and/or mishandled. May be dinged, scratched, or cleaned. Closest to silver value!

Pricing
Because of their greater numismatic value, pricing for COINSPlus, Inc silver dollar bags is based not just on the daily market price of silver, but the rarity of the coins contained in each bag. As a result, expect to pay a little more for bags containing Morgan silver dollars only. Those more interested in silver content than scarcity might prefer the bag mixing the more common 1921 Morgan Silver Dollars with 1921-28 and 1934-35 Peace Silver Dollars.
